Registration Open For 21st Annual Power Swim
PRESS RELEASE | February 14, 2024 — Every Memorial Day weekend, swimmers take to the beautiful waters of Virgin Islands National Park on St. John to raise funds for kids’ swim programs, marine conservation, education outreach and more! One of the most beautiful swims in the world, the Friends of Virgin Islands National Park’s Beach to Beach Power Swim includes the beaches of Maho Bay, Cinnamon Bay, Hawksnest Bay and Trunk Bay which is regularly on world’s top 10 beaches lists. The swim is number 23 on the list of the World’s Top 100 Open Water Swims and number 7 on the World’s Top 100 Island Swims.
Registration for the 2024 event, which takes place on Sunday, May 26, 2024, is open via the Friends of Virgin Islands National Park’s website (www.friendsvinp.org). Space is limited and registration will close on Wednesday, May 22 or when capacity has been reached. In the past two years, registration for this popular event has closed in April. Last year the 360 registered swimmers aged 5 to 80 years old represented 29 states and territories.
“We are excited to once again invite swimmers from near and far to swim from Maho to Cinnamon, or to Trunk, or the full 3.5 mile long course to Hawksnest,” says Tonia Lovejoy, Executive Director, Friends of Virgin Islands National Park. “Conceived as a fundraiser for marine protection and youth programs like Learn To Swim, it is extraordinary how this swim has grown from its inception 21 years ago.”
The 2024 event logo was designed by Aaliyah Hodge of St. Thomas and features a dolphin and a Ginger Thomas. Until recently Aaliyah was the Friend’s Trail Coordinator. She first joined the summer crew in 2016 and worked her way up to heading the crew and working as the Friend’s Trail Coordinator for two seasons to help keep park trails and ruins cleared and maintained.
