Friends Trunk Bay license plates expire on December 31, 2023 and all current Friends plates will be invalid after that date.  Holders must change their plates to new Friends turtle license plates or Virgin Islands plates before the end of 2023.

  • The new Friends plates feature the endangered sea turtles found in our waters.
  • Plates will be numbered sequentially starting at FP-1 and will be issued sequentially.
  • The former P- will no longer be used and personalized and custom plates will not be allowed.
  • The new license plates will be available for purchase in the Park Store in the National Park Visitor Center in Cruz Bay (Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 1:30pm.) or online.
  • In the case of online purchases St. John residents must collect their plates in person from the Virgin Islands National Park Visitors Center.  Plates will be mailed registered to St. Thomas and St. Croix residents.
  • The price of a pair of plates is $55 and all proceeds over cost will be used to fund programs aimed at protecting and preserving the natural and cultural resources in Virgin Islands National Park.
  • At the time of purchase, buyers will need to complete a detailed vehicle form before a number can be assigned.  This form will be forwarded to the Virgin Islands Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) for their reference at time of vehicle registration.
