Quandt wins Paddle the Park’s long course title for 2nd straight year

St. Thomas’ Adam Quandt posted the fastest overall time to win the long course title for the second straight year during the Friends of the Virgin Islands’ 10th Paddle the Park standup paddleboard races, held Sunday on St. John.

Battling tough waves and headwinds, Quandt (who also won the men’s 40-49 age group) finished the 5.5-mile long course in 1 hour, 17 minutes and 35 seconds — nearly 11½ minutes slower than his 2022 time.

Other long course age group winners were Christine Blanck (women’s 18-39, 2:15:00), St. John’s Regan Seydler (men’s 18-39, 2:00:00), and St. Thomas’ Terry Stevens (men’s 50-59, 1:33:00).

In the open (intermediate) division, Craig Ring of Ipswich, Mass., had the fastest overall time on the 2.7-mile course, finishing in 47:51 to take top honors and the men’s 50-59 division.

Other age group winners in the intermediate division were St. John’s Anjali Glenn (women’s 18-39, 1:07:53), St. John’s Sam Kruse (men’s 18-39, 51:39), St. John’s Erin Moon (women’s 40-49, 1:04:06), St. John’s Leonardo Perez (men’s 40-49, 52:47), Jane Israel of Seattle, Wash. (women’s 50-59, 1:02:09), and Jeff Suvak of Independence, Ohio (men’s 60-over, 57:49).

In the short course division, James Day of Hanover, Md., won the overall and men’s 50-59 age group titles, completing the one-mile course in 17:27.

Other age group winners in the short course division were St. John’s Eloise Simmons (women’s 12-under, 28:44), St. John’s Rollie Simmons (men’s 12-under, 20:06), St. John’s Penelope Stewart (women’s 13-17, 22:53), St. Thomas’ Newton Greenawalt (men’s 13-17, 18:59), St. John’s Danielle De Leon (women’s 18-39, 20:09), St. Thomas’ Ann Birr (women’s 40-49, 21:43), St. John’s Patrick Orr (men’s 40-49, 22:14), and St. John’s Mindy Michtner (women’s 50-59, 17:40).
