SCHOOL KIDS IN THE PARK aims to encourage educators to utilize the Park as a “living classroom”, facilitates visits to the Park, and works to remove barriers that may limit students' participation by covering transportation costs.
These trips to the Park and others offer options for your class to explore and learn in the park include beach talks about sea turtles, visits to the Annaberg sugar plantation, bird walks, nature and plant walks, and hiking Leinster Bay freedom trail.

All Things Sea Turtles
Location: A North Shore Beach
Length: 1-3 hours
Lead by the coordinators of the Sea Turtle Protection Program, this visit includes learning about the species that live in our waters, their life cycle, how to identify nests and tracks and more. Bring a hat and water.
Nature Walk
Location: Cinnamon Bay Nature Loop
Length: 1 hour
Learn about the natural history of the environment. Beginning and ending at the Danish Sugar Plantation ruins this 1/2 mile loop passes through a moist tropical forest dominated by bay rum trees. Learn about the traditional uses of local plants.
Leinster Bay Freedom Hike
Location: Leinster Bay
Length: 3 hours
Walk the shoreline of Leinster Bay to the plantation ruins which are now a part of the National Park Service Network to Freedom Program. This easy hike showcases panoramic views of the BVIs, diverse flora and fauna, and three different historic sites. Students need to wear shoes suitable for walking on an uneven surface.
Bird Walk
Location: Francis Bay
Length: 1 1/2 hours
Take a bird walk around Francis Bay’s salt pond to learn about our aviary friends. Learn about bird calls, their habitats and migration routes. Other wildlife sometimes seen on the trail include crabs, donkeys, iguanas, and deer.
Explore Annaberg Sugar Plantation
Location: Annaberg Sugar Factory
Length: 2 hours
Learn about the history of St. John with a visit to Annaberg ruins including a windmill, horse mill, cane boiling house, enslaved laborers cabins, and garden. On certain days cultural demonstrators are on site.
