Welcome to Junior Ocean Explorers on St. John!

Junior Ocean Explorers on St. John is for students in grades 3-6. This new addition in 2023 to Friends programming was a success! Students spent a week in July at Cinnamon Bay Beach learning swimming, snorkeling and water safety techniques, diving into marine science and art projects, and more

Junior Ocean Explorers is a hands-on marine science program for students in grades 3-6 interested in learning more about our local marine environment and developing water safety skills.

Program participants will learn foundational swimming and water safety skills including mechanics for freestyle, elementary backstroke, and treading water, as well as basic skills for water sports like snorkeling and kayaking. Program participants will also learn about our local environment including plant and animal identification and ideas of conservationism, stewardship, sustainability, and citizen science.

If you have any inquiries about the program, please contact Program Director, Diana Bowen at dr.diana.bowen@gmail.com or Program Coordinator, Erin Hollander at ehollander@friendsvinp.org

A collaboration between faculty at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service (VIMAS) and Friends of Virgin Islands National Park to bring a successful and well-established program on St. Thomas and St. Croix to St. John.
