Things To Do, Learn, And Experience

 Explore and learn about Virgin Islands National Park through a series of hikes, nature & culture seminars, boat trips, turtle talks, and more from November to June.

PLEASE NOTE:  Unless otherwise indicated, these seminars are free and open to all with a suggested donation at the end should you wish to support the work we do.  Participants must register where indicated as space is limited.

Reef Bay Hike

Reef Bay Hike is a Virgin Islands National Park hike led by a Park Ranger that includes a boat pickup at the beach. It is a great opportunity to learn about and explore the natural gifts and rich history of the island!

Hike Ram Head

Last Fridays of the month | November to May | 9AM to 11AM | 

Ram Head Hike is a Virgin Islands National Park hike led by a Park Ranger. It is a great opportunity to learn about the natural resources and history including the 1733 Revolution. The hike leaves from the Salt Pond Bay parking lot at 9AM and will include traversing both Salt Pond Beach and Blue Pebble Beach before climbing to the peak of Ram Head. Be sure to bring your sturdy walking shoes, plenty of water, and mineral based sunscreen.

Local cultural ambassador, Ital Delroy Anthony shares his passion for the culture and history of St. John, especially focused on the relationship between plants and culture. These talks take place at Cinnamon Bay.

Turtle Boat & Snorkel Experience

Friday With Friends | Second Fridays | 9AM to 12:30PM | December to June | $90 | Booking Required 

This unique experience on an Ocean Surfari boat is hosted by a sea turtle and coral ecosystem expert. Learn about these majestic endangered species and make two stops to snorkel with sea turtles. The boat picks up and drops off on St. Thomas and St. John.

Hike Leinster Bay

Friday With Friends | Third Fridays | 9AM to 11PM | November to June | Free | Registration Required

Learn about the natural and historical resources of this beautiful area recently designated as part of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. This guided hike with retired ranger Laurel Brannick showcases panoramic views, diverse flora and fauna, and three different historic sites.

Archaeology At Sea

Join us for a sunset cruise with former Park archaeologists, Ken Wild and Brittany Mistretta and explore the rich and colorful history and archaeology of the Virgin Islands maritime world from the Taino's to the colonial era.

Annaberg Cultural Program

At one time, Annaberg was the largest plantation on the island and is well worth a visit for anyone interested in the history and culture.  Learn from a local cultural demonstrators about bread making, local food and plants, and more.

Sea Turtles At Maho

Stop by the sea turtle info table on the beach at Maho Bay under the pavilions to chat about turtles and marine life in the bay with the National Park Sea Turtle Monitoring and Protection Program team and volunteers.

Meet at the George Francis factory ruins and join retired park ranger and bird lover, Laurel Brannick as she shares her knowledge about all things feathered on St. John.

Trail Volunteers

Tuesday & Thursday | 8:30AM to 2PM

Volunteer on the walk up trail crew on Tuesdays and Thursdays from November  to May.  Help us maintain trails, clear ruins, plant trees, and remove trash! Work locations and meeting times are posted on Facebook and instagram on Mondays.
